Spoon - “Peace Like a River” (Paul Simon cover)
ANYTHING YOU WANT. A Spoon Primer.
Spoon is a indie-pop-rock-what-have-you band from Austin, TX. They have been making amazing music since the mid-90’s and you need to start listening to them yesterday. Britt Daniel (blond giant) is the lead singer and guitarist. He has the most amazing nasal yelp of a singing voice you will ever hear. Rob Pope plays bass, Eric Harvey plays keys, and Jim Eno plays drums, but none of them play too much. “Minimalist” is tossed around a lot in regards to their music, and they are, but in a different way on every song. Look, you really need to hear for yourself.
*If you want to start with 4 or 5 songs instead of all 30, I’ve starred the ones you absolutely must have.
Telephono (1996): The one the band hates.
A Series of Sneaks (1998): The one where their label screwed them over.
Girls Can Tell (2001): The cool kids’ favorite.
Kill the Moonlight (2002): The one that is almost perfect.
Gimme Fiction (2005): The one with the best cover art.
Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (2007): The one that is perfect.
Transference (2010): The great divider.
